The Panerai PAM127 "Fiddy" is the watch which will drive the first serious wedge into Bettarini Luminor design from the «Pre-Vendôme» years. An attempt to replicate the Luminor 6152 from the 50’s-60’s, it will revisit the main characteristics of the vintage Luminors. Arguably the most iconic Panerai case style, the Luminors is typically what are thought of when “Panerai” is heard. Currently, there are 3 variants of the Luminor case style (disregarding size): Bettarini, 1950, and the 1950 “Vintage/Base”. When Panerai watches became available for sale to the public in 1993, designer Alessandro Bettarini (Panerai’s chief of mechanical engineering at the time) created the modern Panerai Luminor. He brought back the crown-protector bridge and the Luminor name from the archives, but with a smaller 44mm case.
The Panerai PAM 590 takes on this characteristic and therefore has a dial inspired by vintage models. Another reason to fall for it. In summary, our Luminor has a “Bettarini” case, a “non matching” dial and an “8 Giorni” inscription.
