I did not even need to remove the case back as it sat proud of the lugs. I'm going to be buying a new SubC LN soon and am thinking about having my initials engraved on the caseback. I know this ruins the resale value; however, I'll probably never re-sell the watch. I am quite a purist too, and have been thinking about whether or not to buy an additional (official) caseback and have that back engraved, holding onto .You shouldn’t rush into engraving a watch – especially an expensive one. Just recently, the authenticity of a super rare Rolex Daytona Paul Newman “Lemon” Ref. 6264 in 18k gold, offered by Christie’s in Hong Kong on May 28, 2018, was publicly challenged due to engravings with an apparently incorrect “typeface”. Engraving was a complimentary service by Rolex so I didn't have to pay anything and there was no extra charge for handwriting. From what I was told it was laser which makes sense because I sent them a digital file of the text/handwriting. I see a lot of talk of "heirloom" watches on this forum. Engraving just cements that, IMHO. Most can be buffed out if necessary or the caseback can be easily replaced. These are Rolex watches, not unique antique pateks!
